MGI’s Luke Buchanan presented MGI’s work in nature-based solutions at the 2023 Sustainability Research & Innovation (SRI) Congress at the Panama Convention Centre in Panama City.
MGI has been involved in the implementation of Nature-based solutions (NBS)/Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) over the past 5 years in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. At SRI 2023, Mr. Buchanan presented the following recent initiatives by MGI:
1. Implementation of Eco-System Adaptation Measures for the Kingston Harbour Communities (KHEAM).
2. Building Climate Resilience of Urban Communities in Latin America and The Caribbean Region Through Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA)
3. The National Tree Planting Initiative (The National Schools Tree Planting Competition)
Presentations were also made on MGI’s Management and Visualization of EbA/NBS-related Data, with a focus on; CORE EIS – CORE Environmental Information System, NRI – Natural Resources Inventory and J-SEAS – Jamaica Sargassum Early Advisory System.
The Sustainability Research & Innovation (SRI) Congress is the world’s largest transdisciplinary gathering for the global sustainability community. The third edition of the SRI Congress, SRI2023, is being hosted by the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Republic of Panama (SENACYT) and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) June 26 to 30, 2023, bringing this global event to the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
SRI unites more than 2000 global sustainability research leaders, government and civil society experts, funders and innovators to inspire action and promote a sustainability transformation.
