SOS CARBON PARTNERS WITH MGI – DOMINICAN REPUBLIC WEEK IN JAMAICA FEBRUARY 2023

Mona Geoinformatics Institute (MGI) solidified its partnership with SOS Carbon of the Dominican Republic by signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the MGI office in Kingston during Dominican Republic Week in Jamaica.

-MGI signs MoU with SOS Carbon for exchange of technologies and strategies tackling sargassum invasion affecting hotel and coastal industries in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic

MGI met with CEO & Co-Founder of SOS Carbon, Mr. Andres Bisono Leon to discuss the ways in which collaboratory efforts may strengthen existing relations between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

This partnership will combine the technical expertise of both institutions, tying together state-of-the-art research, tools, and in-field harvesting for the transformational use of sargassum – a naturally invasive species impacting coastal industries more and more each year in both countries.

This partnership will combine our technical expertise to tackle sargassum invasion affecting our coastal industries. Coastal managers, for eg, can now utilise MGI’s Jamaica Sargassum Early Advisory System (JSEAS) with SOS Carbon’s Littoral Collection Module (LCM) harvester as transformative solutions to sargassum inundation
